Another Fun Weekend Here at Fort Huachuca

Well, here it is, another Sunday, and another fun weekend here at Fort Huachuca.
(Seriously… I’ve actually been having fun here.)

Saturday morning, formation at 0600 for a road-march and a few runs through the obstacle course. The road-march was more like a stroll in the country; pace was laughably slow, and we didn’t even carry our rucksacks (the younger soldiers fresh out of Basic aren’t quite up to a full ruck-march yet). The obstacle course was a blast, everybody laughing and cheering each other on, the weather was great (sunny, temp in the low 40s), and I got to chat briefly with both the First Sergeant and the Battalion Commander (Lieutenant Colonel F. is actually a very cool lady).

Other than that, I’ve been helping the Cadre by doing the Key Inventory and still working on my paperwork. The paperwork is taking longer than I’d like, but I’m making steady progress on it.

For now, life is okay. Take care, people.

Snow Day!!!

We’ve got two inches of snow on the ground here… winter in Arizona ain’t much to talk about, but the entire durned post has shut down. Classes cancelled, all post facilities other than the messhall and chapel are closed… they don’t know how to drive in snow, down here. Tomorrow’s PT is already cancelled (we’re supposed to get a bit more snow tonight), and we’ll see what happens with the post.

Take ‘er easy, people.

There’s a Glitch

Well, while I’d hoped this blog would always contain nothing but happy news, such is not always the case. Currently there’s a glitch with my Security Clearance, and I’ve been pulled out of the school until it gets resolved (week two of the school involves access to a building containing truly classified information, and until my clearance is fully granted, I’m not allowed access to that building). The process for adjudicating a clearance hold involves a lot of paperwork back-and-forth to Ft. Meade, Maryland, and is likely to take about three weeks to accomplish.

Ho-hum… who wants to hear about paperwork?

First day back we went on a 2.5-mile run, and it wasn’t an easy one for me… two weeks of sleeping late, not doing PT, and eating Christmas cookies have a definate effect on one’s performance. We also had to do a urinalysis, which takes a looooong time when you’re talking about the number of people in our company.

It was good to see most everybody for the brief time I was able to, and hopefully I’ll get to take leave again sometime within the next 8-9 months.

Until futher, take care.
