    1. Thanks, Susan.

This one was done with a Canon 60D with… I think it was my 50mm lens @ f/1.8. Most of the Western Journal photos were taken on the 60D with either a 50mm or Tokina 11-17mm f/2.8.

A few “Image of the Days” have been taken with my Canon PowerShot SX130IS, a handy little point-and-shoot. But I’ve mostly replaced it with the camera on my phone, which is good enough and easier to carry.

        1. I have a miniature bellows that you can mount EOS lenses to, which I’ve used to dabble in the macro world and focus custom lenses with. But otherwise, not really. For most macro stuff, I’ll just use the PowerShot. That thing can almost focus on surface of its own field lens.

          1. That surprises me. So what did you take this photo with? Tell me about your custom lenses.

          2. This one is a few years old, but it was probably the 50mm on the 60D. The aperture is blown wide open, so I might have been using a neutral density filter.

Around the same time I was also playing with single element lenses that I would mount to the bellows with cardboard and duct tape. The effect was ultra-thin depth of field, tons of chromatic aberration, and lots of barrel distortion. It was fun. Now that I’m able to make more complex housings on the 3D printer, I’m tempted to revisit the idea.
